We’ve compiled a list of a variety of places we regularly visit and think you might enjoy too.

Fine Dining

A hotel, health barn, cafe and beautiful restaurant. It sits at the center of the Lowther Estate (where much of the food on the menu comes from) and offers the best seasonally driven cuisine available for many miles. It’s a special occasion spot with a tasting menu, wine pairing and the works. Definitely one if you are a foodie or have a for a special occasion.

A hotel, English pub, and it’s new fine dining restaurant, the George and Dragon can give you a good English cuisine experience for a reasonable price.

Gastro Pubs

Placing in Estrella’s Top 50 Gastropub list in 2021 and winning Best Dining Pub 2019 and 2020 in the Cumbria Life Food and Drink Awards, The Dog & Gun gives you an elevated English pub experience that breaks the divide between pub food and fine dining.

A 17th century British country pub, The Queens Head is chalk full of ambiance. Noted for their delicious wood fire pizza, it is a top choice for a good pint and tasty pub grub.

Pubs with good grub

With a beautiful beer garden, The Horse and Farrier is a nice place to stop on a sunny day and grab a bit or drink. Overlooking the countryside, it is a peaceful place with good grub to watch the sunset.

Dating back to the 1700s, The Highland Drove Inn has award winning food, real ales, a notable wine list, and roaring fires in winter. Their friendly team hold the intention for you to walk out feeling wonderful after your meal! They shape a menu based around seasonal harvests in the Eden Valley, perfect for gathering a taste of Cumbria!

A family ran pub, the Fetherston Arms is the place for that home-cooked meal type food, along side a fine selection of national and local cask beer. Enjoy your dinning next to a crackling fire while resting in a warm and cozy atmosphere at Fetherston Arms. (Dog friendly!)

Lunch spots

A lovely spot for a warm sunny day, at The Secret Garden you can sit out in the sun right along the mouth of the river Eamont. Enjoy a nice lunch and an afternoon cocktail while taking in the views of the surrounding Fells.

A self-proclaimed food adventure Fell Pack has quickly become a firm favourite for Lunch, coffee and fresh food. They’ve got a delicious menu and provide fantastic packed lunches to take away for those days out up in the hills. (We’re yet to try it out but Thur – Sun they’re now serving supper too)

Situated on the main road of Penrith, GreenWheat is a wonderful locally owned and operated florist and cafe. With great food and a beautifully manicured garden in the back, it is a peaceful and restful place to enjoy a nice coffee or lunch break.

The Narrowbar Cafe, located in the heart of Penrith, gives you a small town cafe experience. With great coffee and a notable menu with light lunch food, The Narrowbar Cafe is a great stop while wandering the cobbled streets of Penrith.
