FILM, TV AND EDITORIAL

Edenhall Estate possesses wonderfully enchanting character, which makes it a perfect backdrop for film production.

Filming at Edenhall Estate

Edenhall Estate is one of Britain’s most extraordinary film and television locations. 1,500 acres of Lake District countryside, a working estate of genuine character, and a world-class creative studio built quietly within its walls. The estate offers an almost limitless range of natural and architectural settings within a single location. Ancient woodland, rivers, open farmland, a private lake, mist-rolling hills, and sandstone stone buildings lit at dusk. At the centre of it all sits Studio 1841, a professional creative facility built into the estate’s historic stable courtyard. Hosting a top of the range post production and editing suite along with a recording studio, meeting rooms, lounge areas and private offices Studio 1841 delivers something other film locations just can’t offer.

Edenhall has hosted the likes of the BBC, ITV and Yash Raj Films, alongside commercial and fashion work for Percival, David Gandy Wellwear and Triumph to name but a few. The common thread is always the same: they came for the location and stayed because the whole experience felt different. That experience is the estate itself. When the gates close, Edenhall becomes yours. The house of Eden Hall, privately situated within the wider grounds, sleeps 14 to 24 guests across 12 ensuite bedrooms, with a private chef, daily housekeeping, a private gym, ground staff and onsite concierge. For larger productions, the estate can accommodate up to 80 people. Crew, cast and creative teams don’t just base themselves here, they settle in. The access is straightforward too. Ten minutes to Penrith station, three hours to London by train, and within 1.5 hours of three international airports. Remote enough to feel away from everything.

"We visited one of the lodges for the afternoon along with the wonderful grounds, whilst filming with the BBC. A truly picturesque, quiet location within 10 mins drive of Penrith."

The grounds encompass 500 acres of dense, old-growth forest, acres of garden and parkland, a private lake, and a historic deer park home to an ancient breed of Fallow deer — all threaded by 76 miles of gravel and dirt road and defined by 220 miles of hand-placed dry-stone walling and 182 fence gates. Water runs throughout: five miles of private riverfront fields and forest lead to two miles of trout and salmon-rich river, where the River Eamont meets the River Eden. Over 100 species of wild birds inhabit the estate, which is also home to England’s largest and oldest cedar tree and a tallest-in-the-land avenue of lime trees. A full production office and edit suite ensure Edenhall is as practical as it is cinematic.
